Also it's important to note that star will be the major theme in one of the route considering that we have 'Hoshi' in the title (That one route only will be obviously better than the whole localized Miagete, because it'll be uncensored lol), and the whole theme of Hoshiori is the dream for the future (Yume Mirai part) in which it'll depict the. Let's get the big statement out of the way: Hoshi Ori Yume Mirai is a fantastic visual novel. Alright now onto more specifics. First of all, the plot is very well.

Let's get the big statement out of the way: Hoshi Ori Yume Mirai is a fantastic visual novel. Alright now onto more specifics.
First of all, the plot is very well developed. Now, I have to say some routes are more developed than others, but overall, all of them (and the common route) were great. What HOYM did really well was that it took simple cliche concepts of nearly all visual novels and somehow made them enjoyable. I started out with Marika (I'm a sucker for childhood friends, and yes I got bamboozled later on). She's exactly what you would expect out of a childhood friend: caring, supportive of MC, innocent, cheerful, etc. There were no surprising twists or turns, no sudden separation, no nothing. And yet, it was enjoyable in some way. Everything played out as they should, even during the much-dreaded trips to the parents. The same thing for Natsuki's and Misa's, they were all exactly what you'd expect. Touko's route was next, and it had itself some interesting developments. We learned of her leaving after the festival, something that was glanced over in all other routes. And instead of the classic let's-do-something-really-dumb-to-keep-you-here schtick (ahem looking at you Chris's route in Majikoi), MC reacted as any sane high school students would and just make the best of the remaining time. Albeit, she did end up staying but that was never MC's intention for all his actions. Sora's route added a layer of surprise with the reveal that she'd met MC before (though it was quite heavily hinted at before the actual revelation.) And finally, there's Rikka's route, which I felt was one of the most well-written VN's routes I've played. The whole progression from start to finish, acceptance to break-down, about her love for piano was so natural and well-thought-out that it even made me tear up (and I've played MLA and S;G). Bottom line being, HOYM took generic overused character concepts and somehow made them work fantastically through pure story development and dialouge alone.
Of course, there's no praising HOYM without talking about its after stories, which elevated it from okay VN to one of the best slice of life VNs out there to me. There's no crazy shennanigans or surprise heart-break, it's just a very loving couple trying their best to both achieve their dreams thorugh their own hard work. Now I might be biased since I have a thing for simple everyday domestic life (which HOYM played perfectly) from playing too much 'heavy VN' like MLA, but this VN was too wholesome even for a broken soul like mine.
Moving on from plot, we have characters. Much like its plot, HOYM's heroines played into a lot of diiferent tropes. We have Marika the childhood friend, Natsuki the bundle of sociable energy, Misa the klutzy senpai, Touko the tomboy, Sora the cute taciturn underclassman, and Rikka the mysterious and composed girl MC sits next to (who even have purple hair and is a closet pervert). However, HOYM used these characters in a very fresh way compared to other high school, slice-of-life VN. Rather than trying too hard to subvert these tropes, it actually promote them and try to push them past their boundaries. Even into the after stories, which instead of being a way for devs to put in a few additional H-scenes (even though they did), the little quirks of each girls are still relevant and played a large part into how they will achieve their dreams, as well as MC's dream. The use of a single common end for the MC, as an architect, is a very good way to explore how these different girls affect his life personally and even professionally.
Music-wise, HOYM would ranked among the top 10 best VN's music out there. With specific ending music for different girls, HOYM managed to perfectly summed up their characters. For Rikka, her theme song even played a central part of her story, with her describing it as the song about her life. The common songs are also fantastic and fits into the mood of the story well, with a uniformal hopeful undertone and happy intonation.

Overall, I found Hoshi Ori Yume Mirai to be a great experience, especially after some traumatic VNs. But even if you haven't experienced PTSD from other VNs, this is still a very enjoyable one to play. And if you have then this will be fantastic eyebleach for you *wink wink MLA nudge nudge*

And that's it for my review of Hoshi Ori Yume Mirai. If MLA is a 10/10 then this is an 8.5-9/10 for me.
